SkinAx^2TM- SOD B^®

SkinAx^2TM is a nutritional anti-aging formula combining primary and secondary antioxidants, clinically proven to improve skin radiance. Four active ingredients, grape flavanol monomers, bioactive SOD, vitamin C and zinc, were carefully selected for their benefits on skin. They synergistically act by restoring skin radiance and efficiently preventing the aging process.

Grape flavanol monomers and SOD are powerful primary antioxidants

They boost the natural skin’s antioxidant defenses and act at the source of free radicals production. These primary antioxidants are respectively associated with vitamin C and zinc: while vitamin C acts synergistically with grape flavanol monomers, zinc is the essential enzymatic cofactor of SOD.

Grape flavanol monomers, vitamin C and zinc are secondary antioxidants

They provide protective effects at the end of the oxidative cascade. SkinAx²™ is formulated with a grape seed extract, exclusively obtained with French grape (Vitis vinifera L.) from Champagne. Varieties i.e. Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot noir, were carefully selected for their high concentrations in flavanol monomers.

These monomers are highly bioavailable: 45% are absorbed as shown in clinical studies, compared to only 1% for dimers. They have a great potential to act directly on skin cells, and have shown to:

• Promote primary antioxidant enzyme activities.

• Protect collagen fibers from enzymatic degradation.

• Preserve capillaries structure and maintain a good microcirculation.

• Control melanin production by reducing the activity of tyrosinase, enzyme responsible for melanogenesis.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) overpowers the damaging reactions of superoxide anion, the most harmful free radical in the body, and protects the cell from its toxicity. As a primary antioxidant, SOD is the first and most important line of the skin’s antioxidant defenses and is reported to:

• Correct skin oxidation, preventing epidermal cells senescence.

• Protect collagen fibers from oxidative degradation.

• Increase nitric oxide bioavailability, improving skin microcirculation.

More than 40 publications report the protective effects of zinc on skin health. Zinc is involved in skin repairing, maintenance and protection. It is an essential element of more than 200 metallo-enzymes, including SOD, and affects their conformity, stability and activity.

Scientific studies shown that zinc:

• Protects skin cells from oxidative stress acting both as a primary antioxidant booster and a secondary antioxidant against lipid oxidation.

• Supports healthy collagen production by activating proteins essential for collagen synthesis (EFSA claim).

SkinAx^2TM also contains vitamin C (ascorbic acid), widely known as a secondary antioxidant that helps to reduce skin oxidation, irregular pigmentation, and promotes healthy collagen.

As reported in scientific publications, vitamin C:

• Corrects skin oxidation, mainly lipid peroxidation, preventing epidermal cells senescence. Vitamin C also potentialises the antioxidant activity of grape flavanol monomers.

• Promotes synthesis of new collagen fibers, acting as a cofactor in the hydroxylation of proline and lysine, essential amino acids in the formation of collagen fibers (EFSA claim).

• Controls melanin production by reducing the activity of tyrosinase, enzyme responsible for melanogenesis.

This secondary antioxidant completes SkinAx2TM formulation by potentiating flavanol monomers action through its synergistic effects.

According to scientific publications, the following figure summarizes the different mechanisms of action of SkinAx^2TM.

• Melanin synthesis is regulated by both grape flavanol monomers and vitamin C, which reduce tyrosinase activity, enzyme catalyzing melanogenesis.

• Grape flavanol monomers, bioactive SOD, Zinc and vitamin C, confer resistance of collagen fibers to proteases, therefore preserving skin elasticity.

• Grape flavanol monomers and SOD improve microcirculation, as they respectively correct capillary permeability, and improve NO (Nitric Oxide) bioavailability.

Skinax^2TM provides a multi-parametric action on all factors involved in skin radiance : skin elasticity, skin luminosity, skin color, melanin spot, redness/rosacea, dark circles (relief and color).

The open-label clinical study enrolled 35 women, aged 40–70, with facial dull complexion. Subjects were supplemented orally with a daily dosage of 150 mg of an antioxidant-rich formulation containing superoxide dismutase-rich melon concentrate, grape seed extract rich in monomers of flavanols, vitamin C, and zinc for 8 weeks.*
